We are very grateful to invite Attorney Shengxi �Tina� Tian as our guest speaker for our monthly topic seminar on August 21st, 2010.

Attorney Tian represents corporate and individual clients in business law and various other areas of laws. With law degrees from both China and the United States, she has over 11 years legal experience, in which 4 years are in Beijing, China and the other 7 years are in several states of the United States. Her clients are mainly Overseas Chinese entrepreneurs in the United States, or Chinese businesses and individuals who are interested in international business or international investments.

Attorney�s Tian training and experience in small, middle-size and big international law firms, together with her internships in US Federal District Court and State Tax Court, give her a special perspective to handle clients� case effectively and efficiently. Most importantly, she understands the special concerns and needs of Chinese entrepreneurs, and is experienced in helping them in setting up business, corporate compliance, creative financing, contract negotiating and drafting and litigation defense.

The topic of this seminar is �Forming a Business Entity in MA�. She will inform the attendants about :

- Advantages and disadvantages of different business entities (sole proprietorship, business corporation, limited liability companies, general partnership, business trust, limited partnership, professional corporation)
- Cost, requirements, and procedures for establishing various business entities;
- Requirements and procedures for converting into different business entities;
- Basic taxation on different entities and;
- Comparing and contrasting setting-up your business in MA vs. Delaware

We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic scientist with training in life sciences or biotechnologies to lead initiatives in China supporting Pfizer's External R&D Innovation (ERDI) team's strategy to create and draw on innovative opportunities in both the biotech and academic space to strengthen Pfizer's R&D pipeline.

Position: External Research Manager, ERDI (External R&D Innovation) Technical Lead (One position)

Location: Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Pudong, Shanghai

Position Summary

As a member of Pfizer's Asia Research team this role will report to the Head of Asia Research. In addition given the substantial operational accountabilities and responsibilities aligned to support ERDI Asia strategies and priorities this role will report on a dotted line basis to the Head of ERDI-Asia. The ideal candidate will be somebody who can rapidly establish themselves as a technical specialist in a team responsible for scouting, evaluating and creating biotechnology and biotherapeutic innovations in China and for integrating selected opportunities into a project portfolio that provides competitive advantage to Pfizer.

Responsibilities

* Contribute to, in partnership with ERDI and Asia Research team members, the definition and implementation of overall strategy in biotechnologies and biotherapeutic products in China
* Identify and enable the evaluation of unique or emerging collaboration opportunities with Chinese academic and biotech partners, by:
o Working with Asia Research team members in developing and maintaining a network of key academic and biotech partners
o Establishing a web-based tool to capture all public domain data related to the discovery and development of biotherapeutics in China
o Developing an in-depth understanding of gaps, unique IP space intellectual strength, talent pool, market needs and external funding opportunities in China for biotherapeutics drug discovery and development
o Providing regular landscape survey reports to summarize progress, strength and weakness of key players in various areas critical to biotech and macromolecular therapeutics in China
o Building and maintaining a process to enable evaluation of and access to merging opportunities by key partner line colleagues
* Provide on the ground technical leadership and logistic support to projects pertain to the establishment of various biotechnology capabilities with academic, biotech and CRO partners, by:
o Ensuring compliance by external partners through joint efforts with Asia Research BD and Legal colleagues
o Enabling timely transfer to and from external partners of research protocol and reagents to allow success execution of joint projects
o Organizing regular project meetings with both internal and external partners and maintaining timely progress reports/updates
o Pro-actively managing collaborative projects by anticipating potential technical hurdles, trouble shooting in real time with external partners and linking to key internal tech experts

Qualification/Experience

* Ph.D. and 3+ years of postdoctoral training or equivalent in life sciences or biotechnologies
* Past working experience in a fast paced entrepreneurial environment is desired
* Strong knowledge and hands-on experiences in the discovery and development of innovative biotherapeutics, such as protein engineering and bio-conjugation methods, protein display & antibody technologies, antibody alternatives, cell-line optimization and bio-processing, macromolecular drug formation and delivery approaches etc

Key Competencies

* Ability to multi-tasks and participate in several projects simultaneously is a must
* Self motivator with the ability to work both independently as an individual contributor as well as a member of a global team
* Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and influence without authority
* Effective communication skills (written and oral; English and Chinese) and ability to articulate scientific results are required
* Familiarity with Chinese biomedical research communities, both academic institutes and the biotech industry
* Demonstrated record in literature based research and technical report
* Experience in business operations is a plus
* Ability to work in flexible working hours to accommodate the needs of a global working team spanning multiple time zones
* Require moderate amount of travel - both domestic and international travels
